Own Boat Tuition

Fairlead Training teaches a wide range of competencies involving the sailing environment. Working closely with other sailing schools we provide sailing tuition on a variety of different yachts, and especially offering own-boat tuition.

Make best use of your time by having the undivided attention of the Instructor, without the pressure of being on a standard course. Learning tailored to suit your own pace and in your own way, as you improve in the handling of your own boat.

You may prefer to learn in a low-key way as the rest of your crew enjoy the cruise or, perhaps you would like an intensive ‘module’ on a particular aspect of sailing, e.g. sail trim, blind navigation or close quarters sailing. MCA exam preparation or RYA course options available too.

Courses are run ideally with a minimum of three students/crew and a maximum of five plus the instructor aboard. One to one tuition is also possible, with some particularly useful techniques to practice when short-handed sailing!

Whilst a mixture of abilities aboard is encouraged, it is not recommended to have Day Skippers together with Coastal/Yachtmaster exam preparation candidates as the Syllabi conflict.

We charge a daily rate for formal instruction and it is then up to you who else you wish to have aboard.

Please note that the yacht must be seaworthy and with sufficient equipment aboard to allow tuition to be safely conducted. The level of equipment aboard will depend upon the cruising area. If in any doubt, please call us. Minimum safety requirements are outlined in the RYA C8 Boat Safety handbook.
